We are a traditional Okinawan karate and Kobudo school. Our style of Karate is called Isshinryu (Ish-shiroo)
Isshinryu is a Japanese word meaning, one heart method. The founder of Isshinryu was
Tatsuo Shimabuku Sensei (1908-1975). He developed the style to have straight punches and rapid
techniques. Because of this, the self defense moves are more natural than many other styles of karate.
Servant's Heart teaches basic punches and kicks, self defense, and karate forms called katas. We teach Ryukyu Shimbukan Kobudo/weapons training under the watchful eye of Paul Vermiglio Sensei of BKI who resides in the UK. Shimbukan Kobudo includes, but is not limited to: bo, sai, nunchaku, tekko and tonfa. Woven into the system is improvement of oneself and developing balance in ones life. Skills such as self protection, coordination, agility, fitness, listening, following direction, learning to lead, and cooperation are enhanced. Attributes such as respect, self-confidence, self-control, faithfulness, and serving others are developed over time.
Servant's Heart Karate believes in having fun and building friendships. We host Friday Night Fun Nights throughout the year. They include things like BBQ'S, parents night out, laser tag, hay rides, and other social events. Having fun as a karate family is important to us.
Servant's Heart Isshinryu Karate & Kobudo School is a nondenominational Christian based karate school. Christian values are part of our program. This being said, Servant's heart Isshinryu Karate School is open to all people. We do not discriminate based on religion, race, or disabilities.
